2023 was a year of many contrasts.
Full of highs and lows, both in our Ireland and across the world, 2023 was challenging, saddening, and uplifting.
Strata Financial was delighted to become one of Irelands Top 20 accountancy firms for the first time, and we continue to strive to provide real partnership with our clients and to be a great place to work.
Recruitment and staffing grew substantially for us, as we continued our expansion and client partnership goals. We are proud to have team members originating from all over the world, something we’ll keep welcoming and growing.
The year 2023 saw us launch our latest Corporate Social Responsibility partnership programmes, hosting successful events that provided funding to cancer research and mental health charities. We are proud to also support a new Wellness for Cancer programme launching in 2024.
Strata firmly reinforces equal opportunities in our workplace, and to this end, as an employer we are delighted to be able to confirm that we have greater than 50% female employment, 50% of the firm’s partners are female, and we have a 0% gender pay gap. We are proud of these statistics.
Ireland as a country struggled with ECB interest rates nearly doubling over the course of the year, and large cost of living increases for both households and businesses. While the rising interest rates caused businesses extra cost, it caused real difficulties for most homeowners. This had a huge knock-on effect on the spending power of ordinary people and the SME sector. At Strata, we have been very conscious of this in 2023. We have helped by ensuring we provide real value by absorbing these cost increases where possible, reducing extra costs and administrative burdens for our clients.
While unemployment rates remained very low in Ireland during 2023, the first vulnerabilities were seen in Ireland’s tech sector employment, impacting the country’s artificially high corporation tax receipts. We believe Ireland needs to build a sustainable financial model that provides stable employment and living standards for all, so in 2023 we worked hard to help clients solidify and expand the country’s core SME base.
The war in Ukraine, and the appalling events ongoing in the Middle East has made us reflect on how lucky we really are in this country, and the importance of all of us standing up for basic human rights and simple common decency. Fairness, empathy and equality should be at our core, and we want to, and need, to lead by example.
The effects of the climate crisis became even more evident across the world. In Ireland we had the hottest June, the wettest July, and saw more serious storms. Strata is determined to do its share to help reduce its carbon footprint and 2024 will see the ramping up of our ESG programme. More on that in the new year!
On a positive note, we continue to invest in our IT and accounting training systems, working towards affirming our gold medal status as a training firm. We recently appointed our first Training Partner and implemented a new and class-leading trainee accountant policy and planner. Our goal is to be industry leaders in training for 2024.
Despite lots of setbacks, and challenges, Ireland really is a safe, rewarding and happy country to live and work in, and we are grateful for it. We wish all our clients, staff, and partners a wonderful festive break with their families and friends. We look forward to seeing you and working with you next year.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
